He doesn't GET us...He SAVES us. Period.

No. I didn’t watch the Super Bowl. Haven’t for years. In fact, without the snack food ads in the grocery store the prior week, I wouldn’t have even known it was this weekend.

But I am always curious about what ads, symbolism, agendas, etc get pushed at these type of events and when I heard there was a “Jesus” ad- I absolutely went and looked it up.

First off, the 1st time I watched it, I immediately had an “off” feeling about it, so I dug into why.

(1)Anything about Jesus, wrapped in a pretty bow and presented in mainstream media, especially at an event completely surrounded in various other occult and satanic symbolism and propaganda, sets my ‘spidey senses tingling’. And when I watch and re-watch this ad, I consistently get the feeling of this over all assertion of ACCEPTANCE as a key point. Which is in fact propaganda and also in direct opposition to the real Jesus.

(2)Yes. Jesus washed feet. BUT he washed His DISCIPLES feet. Not every one he passed. This was an act of humility and service to the men already serving and following Him. So the act is somewhat taken out of context. With that being said- YES, Jesus is ‘love’ and His greatest commandment is to LOVE your neighbor. I DO think this ad seeks to challenge the hate or bigotry that exist. But it doesn’t paint a full and accurate picture of who Jesus really is and IMO an incomplete or inaccurate depiction of Jesus is more damaging than no Jesus ad at all.

(3)Jesus loved people but he HATED sin. Jesus demonstrates immeasurable grace but HE ALSO FLIPPED TABLES. (Literally. Read Matthew 21:12 if you don’t believe me.-meaning, he stood up and made it known when people were doing wrong, intolerable, things!) Jesus easily forgives, but he also followed that forgiveness with the command to “go and sin no more”. Jesus is the perfect balance of grace AND TRUTH.

I believe this ad fails to depict THAT part and instead makes the assertion that for us to be like Jesus we simply ACCEPT and EMBRACE alllllllll these things, and the ad absolutely touched on ALL the hot button topics causing divide in today’s society!!! And ALL the things that a Jesus follower and bible advocate would say are not ok. It has an undertone, blanketing statement that suggest that true “Christian’s” would (should) just sit down, shut up, and embrace them all. “As Jesus does”. Which is so very far from truth.

I am intolerant of hate. Bigotry. Discrimination. Etc. I love people. Yes, I even have friendships with incredible humans who think, act, believe differently than me. But I don’t simply accept and embrace and support the sin in their life. Just as I wouldn’t want Jesus to do in my own.

Don’t confuse love with acceptance.

Side note: the 17 million $$$ spent on this campaign could have done a WHOLE LOT OF actual mission work in the world. If they really wanted to “be Jesus” vs subtly hint at propaganda/push an agenda in some form- they could have been much better stewards with that $ and been the hands and feet of Jesus instead.

***EDIT TO ADD:

A friend sent me this link and it’s soooooo good that I have to share it. It’s called: The Christian Super Bowl Ad They Should Have Made.

They could have presented this salvation message to the masses……

A message about

TRANSFORMATION.

          REDEMPTION.

          SALVATION.

That’s the power of Jesus.

 NOT “he gets us”

 But HE SAVES US

(It’s very different.)
